Balancing the Bacteria of the Mouth and Throat
The rule among bacteria is that to float free in the mouth is to die. Bacteria live in colonies in a symbiotic relationship with other bacteria. The glue and life support of the bacteria is called the biofilm. This is a coating made up of proteins and other substrates that provide not only food for bacteria to live but also provides the bacteria protection against man made defences such as mouthwash and antibiotics. Some bacteria that live in the biofilm are healthy bacteria, whilst others are bacteria that can quickly turn pathogenic and infect the mouth if the conditions change in favour of the bacteria. Pathogenic bacteria can cause such mouth conditions as periodontal (gum) disease, gingivitis, dental decay, and bad breath with sour taste.
Bacteria and biofilm are natural occurrences of the mouth and throat, but we must work hard at keeping them healthy. A similar analogy would be that of a river. A fast flowing stream does not get stagnant water and weed overgrowth, yet a stagnate pool often is infected by virulent weeds and bacteria. The mouth is the same. If the biofilm is cleaned twice a day and then allowed to re grow, it generally grows healthy, however if it is allowed to stay and stagnate, it generally becomes infected with pathogenic mouth and throat bacteria.
It is this biofilm theory that Dr Speiser has been developing in his Australian Breath Clinic with great success. The clinic protocol is to avoid the use of harsh antibacterial chemicals and to focus on biofilm cleansers that will remove the biofilm in total taking the bacteria away with the cleaning. This biofilm protocol is called our KForce Balance System; a five day intensive program that utilises mouth and throat cleansers to remove old biofilms and pathogenic bacteria and allow the growth of a new and healthy biofilm and bacteria, that will promote mouth health and fresh breath. A good sign of a healthy biofilm is the clean neutral taste one gets in their mouth after using the KForce Balance System.
Steps Necessary to Balance Mouth and Throat
SINOCLEAR HYPERTONIC NASAL SPRAY
Mucous at the back of the throat behind the gag reflex of the tongue is a major biofilm that breaks down to a cabbage and gasoline smell. The only way to access the mucous layer is by using Saline Nasal Sprays through the nose. At Dr Speiser's Australian Breath Clinic we recommend both Isotonic Saline Flush and Hypertonic Saline Flush. The difference is that a hypertonic solution (more salt) will help with opening the breathing passages.
Remember that dairy products will thicken nasal mucous and increase nasal smells. Also dehydration and other dry mouth triggers will thicken the throat mucous making it more difficult to remove. Interestingly people who say they can smell their own breath, are generally smelling the sulphur compounds coming from this throat mucous. This however may be different to the smells that other people may smell from a sufferer. People usually smell the waste gases from people's mouths and not their nose.
KFORCE BALANCE RINSE
Next we need to tackle the biofilm that collects every day on the tongue surface, on the tooth surface, and between the gums and teeth. Dr Speiser's Australian Breath Clinic does this with the use of a unique product called KForce Balance Rinse. It is a two part solution that you mix together immediately before use into a supplied mixing vial. This solution has our proprietary ingredient "NXTO2" that helps to soften the biofilm layer to aid with easy removal. Also the KForce Balance Rinse artificially increases the pH of the mouth to discourage the growth of the Bad Breath Bacteria. Clinical trials at the Australian Breath Clinic have shown that the bacteria that cause bad breath like to live in a low pH environment. This environment is caused by acids in soft drinks and foods we eat, as well as some of the commercial mouthwash on the market. You can read some of our clinic trials.
The KForce Balance+BreathGuard Kit is formulated to give you 5 intense days of Balance Rinse both morning and night to totally clean the biofilm layers from the mouth, followed by a further 27days of KForce Breath Guard Probiotic treatment. To view this kit, please go to our Online Shopping Page.
KFORCE BREATH GUARD GEL
Again, testing at Dr Speiser's Australian Breath Clinic showed that normal toothpaste will not treat bad breath. This is due to a number of reasons. Firstly toothpaste particles are not as small as gel particles and therefore cannot penetrate as deep into the tongue and gum surface. Secondly toothpaste has foaming agents that may give you the feeling of cleaning but actually prevent cleaning the back of the mouth due to the gag reflex being activated. Finally the ingredients in toothpaste are designed to clean teeth, and not the tongue surface.
The tongue surface being the largest organ in the mouth, traps the most biofilm and therefore has the potential to cause the most bad breath odour. Dr Speiser's Australian Breath Clinic recommends KForce Breath Guard Gel for tongue and tooth cleaning. It is designed with the correct ingredients to fight the bacteria that cause bad breath and it contains all the ingredients necessary to clean and maintain healthy teeth.
Remember that Tongue Cleaning should be done with a recommended Tongue Cleaner, and following the Australian Breath Clinic protocol supplied with our products. Our cleaning method has been shown at our clinic to be the most effective method of removing mouth waste and biofilm.
LIFESTYLE CHANGES
Most people do not realise how important lifestyle changes are in treating bad breath and balancing mouth bacteria. Firstly most foods create acid attacks on the oral flora. Therefore it is important not to graze on food all day long. Have your set meals, morning tea and afternoon tea but no more than that.
Avoid dehydration, smoking and alcohol, which are all dry mouth triggers. Dry mouth mimics an anaerobic environment and therefore increases the bad breath bacteria. For a detailed list of comprehensive lifestyle tips refer to the lifestyle guide that is supplied with the Balance Kits.
